An enthusiastic group of college students from New Mexico are competing in an Internet treasure hunt. In their search, they discover an ancient Aztec box that is hundreds of year old. They open the box and find a glass container filled with blood. One of the students, Amber, accidentally trips and spills the blood all over the floor of the cave. Within moments, the sun disappeares and the air temperature begins to drop rapidly. Marty, who has been studying the history of the Aztec box, believes that they are responsible for the disappearing sun and predicts that the temperatures will plummet to negative one hundred fifty, killing all life on the planet. Through Marty’s studies, he has discovered that the only way they can make the sun reappear is by human sacrifice. In a race against time they agree to draw a lottery to determine who will be sacrificed in order to save the world. The group of friends is torn when they are faced with the fact that they need to kill one of their best friends, and are heartbroken when the act is committed. Minutes later the sun rises; but they are then faced with the question, was it necessary for them to kill their friend?
