Ray Ellison receives the worst news of his life when he is told that he is suffering from a brain tumor and has just five months to live. With no family and no insurance, Ray cannot afford the two hundred thousand dollar experimental surgery that could possibly save his life. As Ray walks out of the hospital, he is suddenly hit by an oncoming vehicle. Once he is revived, Ray awakes to find himself in the year 1968 and discovers that he’s been given the opportunity to save his future by altering his past. Adelaide, a nurse at the scene, takes Ray to her house to recuperate. Upon discovering that Adelaide is desperately trying to save her home, Ray decides to use his knowledge as a law clerk to help and repay Adelaide for her generosity. Ray also speaks with Adelaide’s son, Lucus, and gives him advice about life, wisdom and his dreams. When he realizes that the next day is when Martin Luther King, Jr. would be shot, he is struck with the idea that he was brought back to this exact time to save a more important life than both Adelaide’s and his own.

Donna Sidchek receives a telephone call one morning informing her that her son Wylie did not show up at school that day. As Donna frantically rushes to the police station to report Wylie missing, she is interrupted by a smarmy man named Nick Dark. Donna learns that Nick hosts a new wild reality television show entitled How Much Do You Love Your Kid? Her panic intensifies when Nick reveals to her that she has been chosen to participate in the game show and that she will win five hundred thousand dollars if she can locate her son within one hour. Donna is then shown a videotape of Wylie’s abduction and is given her first clue by someone dressed as a policeman. Panic-stricken, Donna searches the city for her son, receiving one clue after another. Nick follows her in a race against time and reveals her every emotion. Donna eventually tracks down the car where Wylie is being held and with his encouragement, goes after the kidnapper.
