Anthony Fremont has been terrorizing the residents of the small town of Peaksville for 40 years in this sequel to the chilling 1961 episode. Anthony is still using his telepathic powers to banish those he deems "bad" to a mythical cornfield forever. His mother, Agnes, is horrified to discover that Anthony’s young daughter, Audrey, has inherited identical powers. Agnes soon tries to influence her granddaughter Audrey to use her powers in order to free Peaksville from Anthony’s tyrannical reign rather than prolong his evil legacy. When Anthony learns of his mother’s plans, he seeks out each Peaksville resident one by one, sending them to the cornfield. Agnes finally confronts her son, letting go of all of the emotions that she had suppressed for 40 years. She tries to convince Audrey to use her powers against her own father. Audrey is forced to choose between her grandmother as well as all her friends in Peaksville, and her father, who she loves very much. Caught between two sides, Audrey ultimately aligns herself with her father, and empties the town of Peaksville.

In this updated version of the classic episode, a July 4th block party winds down on Maple Street whose residents are afraid of attending public events ever since the nation was elevated to a high alert for possible terrorist attacks. The neighbors discuss the conspicuous absence of the family who lives at the end of the block. Nobody can recall talking to them, or even know what their names are. They wonder out loud why theirs is the only house on the block not displaying a flag. The conversation is interrupted when the power unexpectedly goes out. Suddenly, there is a huge explosion, which sends the residents of Maple Street into a state of fear. Not only is the power out, but the phones aren’t working and the cars won’t start. The residents quickly jump to the conclusion that they are the victims of a terrorist attack.
