Sean Moore is a powerful, self-made owner of a major coffee franchise. Sean arrives at work one day and is told that there is a reporter waiting to interview him. The woman introduces herself as Elizabeth Wicker, a journalist for High Finance magazine. The interview comes to an abrupt end when Elizabeth confronts Sean about a secret from his past. Years ago, Sean had sold a family heirloom baseball to get the startup money for the company. After the woman leaves he finds the very baseball, signed by the 1927 Yankees, that he had sold 16 years before. With the baseball inexplicably lying in his desk drawer, Sean becomes noticeably upset and demands that his secretary find out who is responsible for the prank. That night, Sean finds his high school jacket hanging in his closet with the note his high school girlfriend, Bess, wrote when she broke up with him. This bewilders him even more because he destroyed this very jacket when he was 18. The next morning he encounters Elizabeth Wicker once more in the parking lot and realizes that it is none other than Bess, all grown up. When he gets to his office, he calls High Finance magazine and discovers that Bess had died in a car accident three days before. Believing that Bess has come back to give him a second chance at the mistakes he has made, Sean decides to take advantage of a renewed opportunity to do good with his life.
